Terms of use
Last updated November 2, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Isaac Berschauer (“we”, “us”) for using Surround Sound at surroundsound.app. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Surround Sound.
The service
Surround Sound lets you form clubs that take turns picking an album, listen to it, rate it and talk about it. We link to streaming services; we don't host or stream music. The service is free. We may change, add or remove features, and we may pause or end the service, ideally with notice.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old (or older, if your country requires it) to use Surround Sound. By creating an account you confirm that you are.
- Give a real email address you control and keep access to it: it's how you sign in.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it.
- One person per account; don't impersonate anyone.
What you post
Your reviews, comments, messages, photos and other things you add remain yours. You give us permission (a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence) to store, display and share them within Surround Sound as needed to run the service, for example showing your review to other members or your message to your club. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups until they're replaced.
Only post things you have the right to post, and that follow these rules:
- No harassment, threats, hate speech, or content that targets people for who they are.
- No sexual content involving minors, ever; no sexually explicit or graphic violent images.
- No spam, scams, or advertising that members didn't ask for.
- Nothing illegal, and nothing that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy (for example, don't upload someone else's photo as yours or post private information about others).
- Don't break or overload the service: no scraping, bulk automated access, probing for weaknesses, or getting around limits and blocks.
We may remove content or limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules or put members or the service at risk. Club owners can also remove members and messages in their clubs.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Surround Sound infringes your copyright, send a notice to our Copyright Agent, Isaac Berschauer, at [email protected]. Include: your contact details; the work you believe is infringed; where the material is on the site (a link); a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you're the owner or authorised to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice with the details the law requires. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.
Other services
Album information, artwork and links come from third parties (such as Deezer, MusicBrainz, Wikipedia and streaming services), which have their own terms. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or availability.
Ending your use
You can stop using Surround Sound at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the privacy policy). We can end or suspend your access if you break these terms, or if we end the service.
Disclaimers
Surround Sound is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that music information is accurate. We aren't responsible for what members post or how they behave, though we act on reports.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of Surround Sound; and our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to US $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
General
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the courts located there, unless the law where you live requires otherwise. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we change these terms, we'll update the date above and tell members about important changes before they take effect; using the service after that means you accept them.
